Mark Govier

Mark Govier started his golf at Fairwood Park where he was junior club champion on several occasions. He represented the County at both junior and senior level.

At sixteen he became Mark Bevan's assistant at Clyne where he did his PGA training and was fully qualified by the time he was 20. As an attached professional to Clyne Mark played numerous events on the West Region, Mastercard and Europro tours. He also represented the South Wales professional team on several occasions.

"It became financially too expensive," said Mark, "going away every week. If you miss the cut you don't make money so I decided to change my life style."

He went to Hensol Academy for two years, became Head Teaching Pro and learned all about custom fitting and coaching. Before long the opportunity to become Head Professional at Morriston arose. That was four years ago. He hasn't looked back since.

Mark he has built himself an enviable reputation as a teacher and coach. His renowned coaching programme has earned him great praise from club members and elite pupils alike. He not only custom fits clubs for golfers but he also uses the modern technology available.

"I use the Vector Launch Monitoring system," said Mark "and offer a custom fit package for individual golfers and use the C Swing programme for video analysis. This offers eight different camera angles to enable me to analyse a players swing."

Mark has developed an individual coaching programme involving golfers looking at their goals & ambitions, warm up routines, fitness and advice on managing your round of golf. People are asked to maintain a statistic sheet for their games. They look at thing like the number of fairways hit, numbers putts taken etc. It is a continual evaluation of their game and progress. When combined with practise and specifically targeted lessons, this can only help golfers to improve their game.

New for July is Mark's website - www.elitegolfcoach.co.uk where he will give invaluable information regarding nutrition, fitness, coaching tips and a host of other golf related ideas. Golfers will be able to send him a video of their swing and Mark will give an online analysis. Or if you prefer you can email him your problems and he will email back advice. It may well be a revolutionary idea, but the system works and offers an in-depth method of coaching.
